NOTE: The 2012 Ozark Greenways Adventure Race is still being developed for our new location this year and thus this page will undergo several updates for completeness before registration officially opens on March 1st. Be sure to check here to keep updated on the race details before you register!

The 2012 OGAR will be held Saturday, May 12 with headquarters at the Trailhead of the Ozark Greenways Frisco Highline Trail located in the center of downtown Williard, MO.

This is a multi-sport challenge event featuring running, trekking, mountain biking, orienteering and paddling. All course distance, maps and itinerary are kept secret until race morning.

Team Categories

Participants will race in one of the two team categories; as a 4 person 'Quad' team or as a 2 person 'Duo' team. There are no gender restrictions on either category. In addition, there is a Masters Division for each category where the average age of the racers on that team equals 40 or more on race day.

Race Information

Before submitting your entry for the race, please make sure all team members understand the following:

  • Participants must be physically and mentally prepared to complete an 6 to 12 hour multi-sport endurace race for the conventional race or 3 to 5 hours for the short course.
  • Everyone must be completely self-supporting, except for paddling equipment (watercraft, paddles, life vests) which will be provided and gives a level playing field.
  • Outside assistance is not allowed, unless from another team within the race.
  • Bike helmets must be worn at all times while in a bike segment.
  • Participants must be 18 years of age or older on race day.
  • All participants should read and understand the race rules before the race.

Packet Pick-up and Race Check-in

  • Teams need to pick up their information packet (Race Bibs, Race Rules, and T-shirts) on Friday from a secret location to be announced shortly. For those teams arriving on race day, the information packet pickup table will be open at the trail head from 5 to 5:30 AM.
  • All team captains must check in at HQ on race morning between 5:00 to 5:45 AM. Check in lines will be arranged by bib numbers. Maps and clue sheets will be handed out at that time.

Mandatory Team Briefing & Race Start

  • All participants must attend the MANDATORY briefing at Race HQ which will be held at 5:45 AM Saturday morning. You will be boarded on busses at 6:00 AM to go to the start point for a 7:00 AM start.

Gear

  • Everyone must be self-supporting in all aspects except paddling (watercraft, paddles and life jackets will be provided)
  • Helmets required for biking segments
  • Compass (no GPS allowed)
  • Simple first-aid supplies
  • Map case
  • Lights for bikes (head and tail) are highly recommended
  • Recommended gear: water bottles/hydration packs, daypacks, snacks, appropriate clothing and footwear
  • The course map that will be provided (1 per team) will be a topo map. Teams may want to secure useful top maps of the general area surrounding headquarters, although it is not required.

Transition Points

No one will be allowed to stash gear at transition point areas (other than at headquarters)-- doing so will result in disqualification (and will be explained in more detail at mandatory race briefing). Team should plan on being entirely self-sufficient. Water will be available at some transition points to refill bottles/bladders.

Medical Support

Paramedics will be available to provide medical assistance. Teams will not be penalized for receiving medical attention and can continue racing afterward if the paramedics permit it, and race rules are continued to be followed. The paramedics have the final decision in allowing a racer to continue racing or not due to medical issues.

Orienteering Workshop

An orienteering workshop will be hosted by the Ozark Greenways Adventure Race at the Springfield Conservation Nature Center. Usually held at 6:30 PM, the exact time and date will be updated here when the room is officially reserved.

Post Race Food

Participants and volunteers are invited to celebrate the completion of the race with a great meal -- free to racers and volunteers. Spectators may join the feast on Saturday for a small fee.
